Unfoldning process is a series of textiles by Elin Karacagil focused around the artistic creative process of the making, taking on an explorative and experimental approach to textile print. Taking influences from artists and designers, who play with the notion of objects and environment, and their creative process, has led and inspired the designer on her creative journey.

Engaging with contrasting material was an initial starting point that inspired sculpture, paintings and mark making that came from initial research of looking at the natural versus the industrial. Using plaster together with floral to show a tension between these two juxtaposing materials. Creating a dialogue between conceptual ideas, multidisciplinary approach and the tools used in the making inform the experimental effects of her conceptual theme. Questioning form and function, chaos and order, with the randomness and the planned of design, the series of textiles explore fleeting moments as well as movement and the still.

The textile pieces have been captured wrapped around or assembled around an object or sculptural form to capture the work in a temporary position. Doing this was a way to capture the vivid yet motionless figures that lasts only for a moment and become sculptural forms in themeselves. There is a sense of tactile sensibility in each textile sample that comes from building up different textures from dyed flock. Heavy contrasts is an important overall theme to the work, which has informed choice of material used. Sheer and light silk organzas have been used to build up layers of tonal colors and adding structure to a very transparent material using flock. As a contrast to working on very transparent material, the collection of textiles also explores heavier material, using calico and cotton drill that were inspired by material commonly used  by artists and a material that is often used during the making. Within the collection, there is a series of pleated textiles. Pleating was a way to manipulate and add new life into an otherwise flat print. It was a way to play with how a design of a print changes once it has been folded, losing its original shape and transforming into something else.
